This was the final year of the Sierra RS500. This is a rare model of the car run by the Alan Moffat Enterprises Race Team before they switched to the Ford Falcon. The race was marred as 1967 F1 Champion Denny Hulme had a heart attack and died on lap 33 after his BMW drove down Con-Rod Straight only barely in control.
