The one and only Ford GT40 Mk II Roadster, often referred to as "X-1", the car had an aluminium chassis, 7.0 litre engine and a standard 4 ratio Kar Kraftgearbox. It was imported from England on a race-and-return basis and handed over to Shelby American were it had a brief but glorious career: one race, one outright victory in the hands of Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby.

Sadly, the roadster was relegated to the history books when the customs men confronted Shelby. They demanded that the car be destroyed of the import duties paid.  In 1970 the car was cut into pieces and buried at a nearby Los Angeles construction site.
